On Christmas Eve morning, 1989, residents and visitors to Jekyll Island woke up to a virtual winter wonderland! Naturally...I was in Upstate New York when it happened. :-/ Imagine my surprise when I saw Jacksonville, FL featured on the six o'clock news. And here I was in snow country...dreaming of a white Christmas, and receiving a green one. Oh well, them's the breaks!
Not to worry, though. I flew home three days later, and this is what was waiting for me...
Actually...that shot was probably a couple of days after I got home. The snow seems to be almost gone. There was a lot more of it. The day I got home, I decided to take a drive and try to capture some of the "winter wonderland" feel of the Island. These shots were taken through the front windsheild of my old '79 Mustang. Good thing the car and I *both* were from New York...and used to this kinda thing. ;-)
Anybody who's ever been to Jekyll has ridden down Beachview Drive. But have you ever seen it like this?!

South Beachview seems to be less travelled. Check out the snow in the middle of the lane on this shot, coming up on the Days Inn...
And further down...coming up on the Ramada...
I have no idea which park this is. From the direction I was headed, probably South Dunes, just below the Holiday Inn. On the other hand, it looks more like St. Andrews Picnic Area, on the extreme south end. Hmmm...
The freak snowstorm had dumped about six to eight inches on the Island. Somewhere, I've got a shot that my other half took the day it was snowing. It shows a ruler, sticking out of the snow on top of the gas grill. At that time, it was about six inches. It continued to snow, though, so no telling how much actually fell. The Island has never seen such a snow, before or since. We'll keep 'watching and waiting', though. ;-)
