Welcome to

Jekyll Island, Georgia!

Aerial view...looking north.

Jekyll Island is approximately 9 miles long and 1¼ miles wide at it's widest point. Uh...that would be on terra firma...marshlands don't count in that equation.

Jekyll is accessible by car, boat and private plane.

The old Jekyll lift bridge.

This bridge has been replaced by a high-rise bridge over the intracoastal waterway. The new bridge opened in the fall of '96.

Jekyll Bridge
by Martha Sedberry

Old bridge,
spanning the river,
tirelessly serving
for years,
and years,
I know that near the end
you felt your age,
still you creaked
and groaned,
trying to keep on
keeping on

But you grew tired,
so tired,
past the time
when a face lift could fix
the furrows in your brow,
tides would come
and tides would go,
still you were
faithful
Now only your ghost remains
and it is time
to say goodbye,
old love,
yes, we will miss you
but you are not really gone,
for we keep you
in our memories,
and in our hearts. . .

The new high-rise bridge, taken from across the pool area of Jekyll Harbor Marina. The end portions of the old lift bridge can be seen behind (and under) the new bridge. The center spans, including the lift span, have been taken out, allowing fishing off the remaining part of the structure.

Jekyll is well noted for it's beautiful sunrises...

...and breathtaking sunsets.

Don't forget to bring your clubs! We also have 63 holes of golf
(with a few minor water hazards).

The Blizzard of '89
Yup! You read that right! Don't believe it? Check it out! ;-)

Okeefenokee Swamp

About an hour's drive from Jekyll (near Waycross), you'll find the Okeefenokee State Park. This is the birthplace of the Pogo comic strip, and a favorite day trip of Jekyll visitors. See alligators in their natural habitat. Take a scenic boat tour through the swamp to fully appreciate the beauty of this unspoiled, natural wonder. Click on the above link for more information about visiting the Okeefenokee.

Cumberland Island
Cumberland Island National Seashore
Another favorite day trip of Jekyll visitors, Cumberland Island is one of the most rustic of all of Georgia's barrier islands. Take a ferry boat to the Island from St. Marys, GA (about a 45 minute drive from Jekyll). There are plenty of hiking trails where you'll be able to view the best of Cumberland's flora and fauna (including wild horses). For more info on Cumberland, click on the above link.
